Bioclimatic analysis and design strategies

All buildings in the block are oriented so they receive direct sunlight at least 3 hours per day (average for whole year). To compensate lack of sun, north-east facing facades are given uninterupted views to the river Arve

Buildings are designed for high daylight autonomy (not for Erwan- this means number of hours per day when natural light is enough, i.e. there is no need for electric lighting). Heigher building elements are positioned further from opposite facades so overshadowing is minimal, both in the morning and afternoon hours.

Buildings are designed, oriented and positioned to allow windflows throughout the block. Special attention was paid to directing the wind flows to common spaces. Apartments as well as garages positioned on level above ground can be naturaly ventilated.

Continuos green belts insure biodiversity in the block as well as the surrounding neighbourhood.

Stormwater runoff is greatly reduced with a combination of green roofs and retention pound. The retention pound is designed as an ecosystem which depollutes the water before it is absorbed by the ground or released into the river.
